TSCPA Offers Free, Non-commercial Personal Finance Resources in April
DALLAS, April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In an effort to help encourage the importance of financial responsibility, and to teach the public how to establish and maintain healthy personal finance habits, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants is helping to promote April as Financial Literacy Month.
More than ever before, people are looking for new ways to save money and TSCPA, along with many other nonprofit and government organizations, are offering free, non-commercial financial literacy resources.
As part of its statewide financial literacy outreach, TSCPA maintains a consumer Web site, www.ValueYourMoney.org, that features personal finance information categorized by life stages such as childhood, high school, college, and parenthood.
Visitors of the site may upload tip and activity sheets, a budgeting worksheet, pet ownership form, a nine month financial planning guide for expectant parents, a "Texans for Financial Literacy" Facebook Group page, and relevant money management materials and videos.
TSCPA also posted a "30 Family Finance Tips for 30 Days in April" list to help teach families about financial responsibility, and to pick up 30 days worth of smart saving and spending tips.
In addition, TSCPA compiled a list of smart money management and low-cost to no-cost summer savings activities in English and Spanish.
ABOUT FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH
In 2000, The Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy began promoting April as Financial Literacy for Youth Month and in 2003 the United States Congress showed its support. Senate Resolution 48 and House Resolution 127 asked President George W. Bush to declare April as Financial Literacy for Youth Month.
At that time, governors of eight states had already named the month of April as such. April was named National Financial Literacy Month by the passing of Senate Resolution 316 with unanimous consent, championed by Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii).
