Teza Technologies Raises $235,000 to Fund Afterschool Programs in Chicago, Build Schools in Malawi

CHICAGO, Jan. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teza Technologies announces it raised $235,000 for global nonprofit buildOn through a matching gift grant of $100,000. The funds will be used to support buildOn's Afterschool Service Programs in under-resourced Chicago Public High Schools, and to build two schools in Malawi, Africa.

buildOn's Afterschool School Service Programs empower at-risk Chicago public high school students to transform their neighborhoods through intensive community service. The program also takes two students from each afterschool program to build schools in some of the poorest countries on the planet, including Haiti, Nepal, Nicaragua, Malawi and Senegal.

The donation will fund the construction of two schools in rural Malawi villages, where there is a desperate need for education. Consistently ranked among the world's 20 least developed countries on the UN's Human Development Index, Malawi has long been challenged by economic stagnation and a lack of access to education. The schools will provide over 200 children in rural villages with a clean, safe place to learn. Additionally, through a partnership with each village, buildOn will ensure that at least half of the school's students are female.
