The American Board of Emergency Medicine Elects New Members to the Board of Directors

EAST LANSING, Mich., Feb. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) has elected three new physician members: Deborah B. Diercks, M.D., Derek R. Linklater, M.D., M.Ed., and Hope A. Ring, M.D.

Dr. Diercks is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She has served in multiple leadership roles including President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), President of the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine Executive Committee (AACEM), and currently serves as the Chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Clinical Policy Committee. She has served as an ABEM oral examiner (since 2012), a member of the ABEM Foundation Board of Directors (since 2023), and an ABEM Certifying Exam case developer (since 2024).

Dr. Linklater is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and the Associate Division Chief for Austin Operations in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. He also serves as the Medical Director for the Emergency Center, Mission Control and Pediatric Critical Care Transport at Texas Children's Hospital - North Austin Campus. His roles as an ABEM volunteer include serving as an oral examiner (since 2012), an oral exam team leader (since 2022), an item writer (since 2023), a standard-setting committee member (2018 and 2022), a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Subboard Member (since 2025), and a Certifying Exam case developer (since 2024).

Dr. Ring currently serves as Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center since 2021. She also is the Medical Director of Urgent Care and Telehealth Services at The University of Kansas Health System. Additionally, she is a member of the Emergency Department Executive Committee and Residency Leadership Team where she has built a foundation of exemplary service and mentorship for both patients and faculty. Her numerous activities as an ABEM volunteer include as an oral examiner (since 2019), a member of the ABEM Foundation Board of Directors (since 2023), an item writer (since 2020), a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Group (since 2024), and a Certifying Exam case developer (since 2024).
