Casey Foundation, along with over 200 professionals from a cross-section of leaders in philanthropy including program officers, presidents, trustees, celebrities and donors. |
WHAT: |
The Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) will host their 2012 Annual Conference and James A. Joseph Lecture & Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles. This year's theme is "Responsive Philanthropy in Black Communities – Mobilizing Our Resources for Impact". ABFE has designed several days of training on strategic giving for Black communities, coaching to reinforce and expand the transformational leader that you are, and workshops to highlight initiatives that show promise for Black communities across the US. "Our 2012 Conference is important for us because we are introducing conversations about how we in 'mainstream' philanthropy reach out to and partner with Black philanthropy," said Susan Batten, President and CEO of ABFE. New to the program this year will be organized discussions with Black foundation trustees, individual donors and civic organizations; these groups will join conversations with ABFE's primary audience of Black foundation executives. In addition to the Lecture, awards ceremony and networking opportunities, ABFE offer attendees a set of innovative, informational and professional development workshops. Some of the program highlights throughout the weekend will include the National Urban League's presentation on key data on race & equality, the role of Black Greek and civil organizations in building responsive Black philanthropy and a moving performance by actress-playwright, Anna Deavere Smith on the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots in Twilight Los Angeles 1992. About The Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE)
The Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) holds the distinction of being the first of the Council on Foundations 38 Affinity Groups. ABFE was established in 1971, and since then the organization has grown into an independent membership organization that counts among its members the most influential staff, trustees and donors of grant making institutions that promote effective and responsive philanthropy in Black communities.
For nearly four decades ABFE has been a trailblazer for championing the interests of Black communities within the philanthropic sector. While we celebrate this history and influence, we also recognize that Black communities and the philanthropic leaders who serve those communities still face institutional and structural barriers that often hinder efforts to leverage philanthropy's powerful tools for positive, enduring social change.
Today, along with our members and supporters across the country we continue the urgent work that advances our mission in the field of philanthropy. To learn more, go to www.abfe.org
