The donation from The Bank of Maine brings the Library within $12,500 of its $115,000 goal. As the June 30th campaign deadline approaches, The Bank of Maine's contribution is intended to encourage other businesses and citizens to make the final donations that will help the Library meet or exceed its fundraising goal.
The funds collected during the annual campaign are essential to the Library, which will use them to purchase books, reference and audiovisual materials and computerized information resources for use by the Library's patrons.
"We are thankful for this generous and critical donation from our new partner and community member, The Bank of Maine, which helps us get even closer to our Annual Fund goal," said Stephen Podgajny, executive director of the Portland Public Library. "The donations collected throughout the year ensure we are able to maintain the caliber of services and resources citizens have come to expect from the Library."
"The Public Library is an important resource for the people of Portland. We couldn't be more pleased to support the Library in its annual campaign," said John W. Everets, chairman and chief executive officer of the bank. "As a new member of this vibrant community, we are proud to partner with an organization that provides the citizens of Portland with activities, events and resources that enrich their lives."
