The Chamberlain Group, Inc. Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Linear LLC

ELMHURST, Ill., July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chamberlain Group, Inc. (CGI), a leader in residential garage door openers, commercial door operators, gate access solutions and related accessories under its Chamberlain® and LiftMaster® brands, announced today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Linear LLC (Linear). 

CGI's innovative products keep people safe, secure and connected. CGI has patented technology – used in Chamberlain® and LiftMaster® MyQ® enabled products –  that allows consumers to remotely monitor and control their doors and gates via an internet connected device such as a smartphone from anywhere, anytime.

The lawsuit was filed on July 9, 2014 in the U.S. Federal District Court in Chicago, Illinois.  It alleges that Linear's GD00Z Garage Door Remote Controller and SW-ATT-GDC Garage Door Remote Controller Products infringe three CGI patents:

• U.S. Patent No. 6,998,977, issued in 2006, for monitoring and controlling the operator of a moveable barrier, such as a garage door or gate, over a network, for example, from a smartphone
• U.S. Patent Nos. 7,852,212 issued in 2010 and 8,144,011 issued in 2012, for interacting with the operator of a moveable barrier, such as a garage door or gate, through an alarm system.

The inventions in the three patents at issue in the lawsuit provide fundamentally new and useful capabilities.
