The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database Supports Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant
CAPE CORAL, Fla., June 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant has announced the receipt of a generous donation from The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database Company, LLC (CLCD), an ever-growing online database with more than 400,000 reviews, MARC records and related information about books and electronic media for children and young adults.
Candidates for an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree can apply for the grant that subsidizes attendance at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting or Annual Conference. Recipients are selected based on economic need and an essay written according to criteria set by the grant's board of directors. Each grant is for $1,500.
Marilyn Courtot, CLCD president, discussed the donation: "Bob and I crossed paths many times over the last 30 years and in 1999 we teamed up to form The CLCD Company. Bob was the consummate 'outside man,' pressing the flesh and bringing together those who could help us create a truly comprehensive database. I can think of no better way to honor his memory than to support an aspiring librarian's attendance at an ALA conference -- a setting that brings together traditional books and new technology, and one that Bob truly enjoyed."
Iris L. Hanney, president of the grant's board of directors and founder of Unlimited Priorities Corporation, responded: "This is a great example of 'giving back,' something that Bob believed in deeply. We thank CLCD for their generous gift, and hope their generosity will be reflected in donations from other companies that Bob was involved with or influenced."
