The Cuban, in the Heart of Hoboken, Offers a Sophisticated, Yet Welcoming Destination

HOBOKEN, N.J., Jan. 12, 2012  /PRNewswire/ -- The Cuban, a stylish, Cuban-influenced restaurant and bar, will open January 17, 2012 at 333 Washington Street, offering an intimate experience in trendy downtown Hoboken. Executive Chef Alexis Lahens will oversee the culinary direction of the restaurant, offering ingredient-driven classics inspired by the essence of traditional Cuban cuisine, with an innovative contemporary twist. 

"My goal is to create a restaurant that is approachable, yet elegant with a cultural flair," Bijen Patel, owner of The Cuban.

Chef Alexis Lahens cultivates synergies of authentic Cuban ingredients that are both traditional and modern. Lahens will create a menu of seasonal, flavor-forward dishes, including Cuban Corn Puree, with scallop and shrimp enchildado and Salted Cod fish in an onion tomato stew and grilled Spanish octopus with an olive potato puree. Decedant desserts like Dulce Cubanito, a honey glazed bread pudding with candied bacon or Tres leches de Canela, three milks cake with spiced vanilla bean soak will offer a look into Cuba's sweeter side. Regardless of which dish guests select, they will experience a warm welcome, and excellent cuisine.

The bar list features an array of mojitos and sangrias, as well as specialty drinks and cocktails, and a refined selection of Spanish-inspired wines. Guests can enjoy an array of small plates and eclectic Cuban tapas to accompany their wine selections. 

"It's really about a return to a traditional way of eating," said Alexis Lahens, Executive Chef. "I'm excited to be part of the community and have a place where folks can have a great time."

The Cuban features color palates that reflect the culture.  It will have the sophisticated, sexy aesthetic befitting a restaurant that is intended to be both a must-visit dining destination and a neighborhood hangout. The 75-seat restaurant will feature handcrafted furnishings, melding the elegance of old Cuba and the flare of new world Cuba. Plush leather banquettes paired with dark wood chairs, walls covered with paintings from a local Cuban art studio, and floors with a Cuban-inspired pattern that echoes through the entire restaurant.
