The First Statewide Green Schools Conference Celebrates 10 Years
PASADENA, Calif., Oct. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The tenth annual Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit will take place at the Pasadena Convention Center on November 2-3. The first major statewide green schools event, the Summit was created to support green programs in the nation's largest K-12 and higher education systems.
Offering an Expo with dozens of companies showing green products and services, educational sessions, and special events including a Leadership Awards reception, the Summit is a unique annual opportunity for public and private sector education stakeholders to share innovations in green policy, practice and technology.
Venture capitalist, philanthropist and Next 10 founder Noel Perry will be the keynote speaker on November 2. Next 10 is a trusted source of insights into the growth of California's green economy, including the economic benefits of its climate change policies. State Architect Chet Widom will speak at the keynote breakfast on November 3.
Dozens of concurrent education sessions will highlight best practices and strategies behind successful green school programs. Topics will include Prop 39 energy efficiency case histories, water conservation, Zero Net Energy buildings, environmental literacy, electric school buses and funding sources.
Pre-Summit training workshops will be offered on November 1. The New Buildings Institute will host a workshop on Zero Net Energy school retrofits, open to registrants at no cost. Another Pre-Summit session, How to Make Your Campus Water Independent, will cover cutting edge strategies for water management.
The annual Leadership Awards reception will be held on November 2. The Summit Advisory Board established the awards to honor outstanding accomplishments on California's K-14 campuses.
The Advisory Board for the conference is chaired by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, State Architect Chet Widom, California Community College Deputy Chancellor Erik Skinner and Van Ton-Quinlivan, Vice Chancellor for Economic Development and Workforce Preparation.
