The Giving Spirit and FlatRate Moving Help Thousands in Need in and Around Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The holiday season is here and community outreach is vital, especially with more and more families finding themselves homeless and with nowhere to turn. This December, FlatRate Moving™ and The Giving Spirit (TGS) are partnering to deliver survival kits to thousands of families in need in and around the Los Angeles area.

The Giving Spirit is a Los Angeles based non-profit organization helping and administrating aid to the homeless community through direct volunteer action. Last winter, TGS was able to deliver 2,500 backpacks filled with over 70 essential survival items through volunteers and various community partnerships. This year, FlatRate Moving™ is one of TGS's sponsors and will be providing all the transportation and delivery services. The survival kits — which will include food, heavy wool blankets, and water — which will be assembled at the volunteer location in Brentwood and will be distributed to thousands, from Skid Row to Santa Monica. FlatRate Moving™ has been heavily involved with non-profits since their inception, and has recently sponsored FeedingNYC, a privately funded not-for-profit organization that distributed 8,000 turkey dinners to homeless New Yorkers this past Thanksgiving.

The partnership and the organization exist to help the many children and families who find themselves without a home during the holiday. The average age of a homeless individual in the United States is nine years old. Non-profits such as TGS are giving both these children and adults not only necessary items to stay warm and fed, but also a voice in a community where they otherwise go unheard. The 11th Annual TGS Week is set to take place December 9th-12th.
