The Highmark Foundation awards $844,000 in grants to nonprofits to support health-related programs
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Highmark Foundation has awarded $844,000 in grants to six nonprofit organizations in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. to support health-related programs in the areas of family health, chronic disease, service delivery systems and healthy communities.
The Pennsylvania grantees include:
- Adams County Arts Council of Gettysburg, Pa.; $98,000
- George Junior Republic of Grove City, Pa.; $166,000
- Johnstown Free Medical Clinic of Johnstown, Pa.; $225,000
- Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens of Pittsburgh, Pa.; $50,000
- SouthEast Lancaster Health Services of Lancaster, Pa.; $180,000
In addition, the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., was awarded a $125,000 grant to conduct a consensus study on peer victimization that will include a review of bullying prevention programs in Pennsylvania.

The Highmark Foundation's overall grant-making for 2014 is nearly $2 million for programs in the Foundation's service area, which includes western and central Pa. and all of W.Va. In the last decade, the Foundation's giving has amounted to more than $100 million in grants, scholarships and programs.
