Dr. Robert L. Conter, MD, is a seasoned medical professional dedicated to both patient care and the broader operational aspects of healthcare. With expertise in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, problem-solving, and strategic thinking, he remains an influential figure in the medical community. As a prior executive board member, he's played a pivotal role in credentialing, medical-legal matters, quality patient care, and administrative decision-making.

Dr. Conter earned his Doctor of Medicine from Rush University in 1981, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology and medical leadership. A past president of the Association for Academic Surgery in 1997, he has been actively involved in shaping academic and clinical standards. In addition to his professional commitments, he volunteers at the local food bank, and senior center, reflecting his dedication to serving the community beyond the hospital walls.

Over the years, Dr. Conter has authored multiple book chapters, abstracts, and papers. He has delivered numerous talks, further cementing his role as a thought leader in medicine and in administrative circles. He takes immense pride in fostering a strong work ethic and believes in the power of hands-on education. This was clearly exemplified in his early role as a General Surgery Program Director, where he helped in the development of a simulation lab and the curriculum for surgical residents. 

He has advanced training in Systems Thinking from the Avraham Goldratt Institute, and uses systems thinking to deal with complex issues in clinical and administrative healthcare. Outside of his medical focus, his greatest joy comes from his family and grandchildren, to whom he imparts knowledge through science experiments and the value of reading. His grandson's passion for aeronautics, inspired by their shared studies, is a testament to Dr. Conter's belief in lifelong learning.
