The Kahala Hotel & Resort Celebrates 50 Years in 2014
Golden jubilee celebrations abound; anniversary travel packages sure to delight guests
HONOLULU, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kahala Hotel & Resort (www.kahalaresort.com), one of Hawaii's most iconic and beloved resorts, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014. Visitors can now book Anniversary room and suite packages, and look forward to a multitude of golden jubilee celebrations and promotions throughout 2014.
Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie intends to proclaim January 22, 2014, the day The Kahala opened, as 'The Kahala Hotel & Resort Golden Jubilee Day.'
Under the management of The Landmark Hotels Group, The Kahala is an independent hotel and member of Leading Hotels of the World and Preferred Hotels & Resorts. It is represented in Japan by Okura Hotels & Resorts.
The Kahala is synonymous with island luxury and pampering in true haute-Hawaiian style. The anniversary theme 'The Legend Inspires, The Promise Continues,' underscores The Kahala's commitment to maintaining the superb guest experience during the last 50 years while heralding in a new era of exceptional luxury Hawaiian hospitality.
"The Kahala Hotel & Resort is such a special hotel in that our guests keep returning time after time – we'll often see guests today who used to come with their families as children. We've had the privilege of serving multiple generations as well as providing the backdrop for life's greatest experiences like weddings, anniversaries, holidays, reunions and romance," said Shawn Sweeney, President of The Landmark Hotels Group.
"We're thrilled to be celebrating such an important milestone and look forward to offering our guests both a taste of the past as well as a look into the future. One thing is for certain, the Aloha spirit remains strong at The Kahala; if there was one continuing thread during the past 50 years, it would be the caring and warmth of our staff. Guests have told us this is why they return time and time again," added Sweeney.
The Kahala has welcomed Hollywood celebrities, heads of state, foreign dignitaries, and global business leaders in its colorful fifty-year history. Early on, The Kahala was nicknamed "Kahally-wood" by reporters because the resort was a favorite among high profile entertainment and sports celebrities. Recent celebrities who have enjoyed The Kahala include Adam Sandler, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore and Sir Elton John. The Dalai Lama visited in 2012.
The Kahala launched its Golden jubilee celebrations in the fall with room packages, special menus and cocktails celebrating the past 50 years at Hoku's and the Veranda, with performances by local artist Makana that included tributes to the music of the 60s, and nightly turndown service featuring special memories of Kahala past and present. A "Down Memory Lane" live radio broadcast, hosted by Michael Perry and Larry Price as part of their morning show, will be held on January 22 and 23 in the Plumeria Beach House and will showcase music and entertainers from the different eras. Later in the spring, there will be a tribute to the Maile Room at Hoku's and a hukilau and Polynesian buffet recreating Sunday nights at the hotel 50 years ago.
