The Miles Foundation Sponsors Early Childhood Development Forum in Fort Worth
Screening of The Raising of America, dialogue with key stakeholders to promote awareness and action
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 14, 2015, The Miles Foundation will co-host a special episode screening of The Raising of America followed by a discussion of the impact of early childhood education with key members of the Fort Worth philanthropic, business, education, and government communities.
The Raising of America is a documentary series that explores how a strong start for all of our children can impact the health of our communities, the productivity of our workforce, and the success of our country. It scrutinizes the interrelation of people, programs, and policies that shape early child health and development, and consequently, life-course outcomes. The Raising of America aims to shift the dialogue from the individual child and "family bubble" to the larger "social ecology" of child development – which includes parents, neighborhoods, providers, institutions, and public policies.
"A number of studies have consistently linked early childhood development – specifically, from ages 0 to 5 – to school readiness and success later in life," says Jay McCall, Director of Programs at The Miles Foundation. "We believe this is an area where strategic focus will have a positive, long-lasting impact on our community."
Grant Coates, President and CEO of The Miles Foundation, added, "We are joining together with key local leaders and stakeholders to find out how we can help ensure quality education and healthy development for all of our children. We are confident that our community is headed in the right direction, and are excited about what we can collectively accomplish."
The Miles Foundation sponsors this event in partnership with the Texas Association for Infant Mental Health (TAIMH), Lena Pope, United Way of Tarrant County, Educational Alignment for Young Children, Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and Camp Fire First Texas.
