The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America Publishes New Resources
CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is pleased to announce three newly published resources for the multiple sclerosis (MS) community. The new resources are available free-of-charge as both printed and online publications at mymsaa.org.
MSAA's award-winning magazine, The Motivator, provides valuable information and support for individuals living with MS, their care partners, family members, and medical professionals. This newest edition of The Motivator includes a cover story on relationships and how an MS diagnosis affects interpersonal interactions. Also included are features on MSAA's latest program initiatives, an Ask the Doctor column, and an inspirational story by a member of the MS community.
The 2016 edition of the MS Research Update provides an overview of the study results of many experimental treatments currently under investigation for the long-term treatment of MS, new clinical trial data on several currently approved therapies, and discussions on the direction of future research in areas such as stem-cell research, biomarkers, and gut microbiota. The 2016 edition of the MS Research Update has been published jointly by MSAA, the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), and the International Organization of MS Nurses (IOMSN).
MSAA's recently updated booklet titled, How to S.E.A.R.C.H.™ for the Right MS Therapy for You!, provides information and tools that will help people with MS and their families work more productively with their doctors and health care team when considering a disease-modifying therapy. This new publication also helps individuals learn about the specific FDA-approved medications available for relapsing forms of MS.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord. MS damages or destroys the protective covering (known as myelin) surrounding the nerves of the CNS, and can potentially injure the nerves as well. This damage causes reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways. Common MS symptoms include visual problems, overwhelming fatigue, difficulty with balance and coordination, and various levels of impaired mobility. Many experts estimate that 2.5 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with this disease, and most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 50.
