- The competition for start-ups is underway and companies are narrowing down
StartUp Open is underway! The competition was originally launched as part of the Kauffman Foundation in 2010 and is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Since its inception, StartUp Open has been a leader in the promotion and nourishment of aspiring entrepreneurs and is one of the world's largest competitions for startup companies, boosting participation from over 30 countries.
The idea behind the competition is to provide start-ups, in their early stages, a chance to develop their ideas and present them to entrepreneurs and judges, who have extensive experience in relevant fields. A number of start-up companies throughout Israel have registered and presented their ideas to a renowned panel of judges, including Managing Partner from Barnea & Co, Michael Barnea, Chairperson of Global Entrepreneurship Week of Israel, Ayla Matalon, Manager of the Hi-Tech Entrepreneurship project at the Jerusalem Development Authority, Stav Erez, Head of the Asper Centre for Entrepreneurship, Professor Niron Hashai and CEO of Algomizer Ltd, Noam Band, among others.
From near to hundred companies, which entered the competition, the judges have selected seven finalists to move forward and partake in the final event of the national competition that will take place on September 22nd , 2014 in Jerusalem. The list of finalists includes:

DCDI - a Medical Device that aims at digitizing dentures, currently develops technology to dramatically shorten and ease the dentures impression process.
GreenIQ - IOT startup that develops & markets a smart garden hub.
Jasper Technologies - Blulock - Locking and unlocking doors with your mobile phone.
Onysus - Onysus is the creative tool that enables designers to use complex computer vision capabilities without writing a single line of code.
Senseless - A unique spatial decision support system for the agricultural market based on a unique sensor and interpretation package

The Road Ahead
The seven remaining startups will attend the final in Jerusalem on September 22nd. While there, the winning company will be selected by the judges in front of an audience of entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, managers and government representatives. The winner will automatically be entered into the list of the World's Top 50 Most Promising Startups, also known as the GEW50, and as such, will gain vast and meaningful exposure. The winner will also receive a number of prizes valued at thousands of shekels and get the opportunity to present their product to the international community.
