The Puppy Mill Project hosts annual Mothers in the Mills gala
Mother's Day Weekend fundraiser helps provide medical care for canine mothers rescued from puppy mills.
CHICAGO, May 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago-based non-profit, The Puppy Mill Project (www.ThePuppyMillProject.org) will host their annual fundraising gala, Mothers in the Mills on Saturday, May 13 at Moonlight Studios in Chicago. The event includes a dinner buffet, open bar, live performance painting by renowned Chicago artist Elliot From of Artbeat Live!, raffle baskets and music from Chicago's hit cover band, Out of Control. The event is held every year on Mother's Day weekend to honor the canine mothers and fathers still suffering in puppy mills.
"We honor the animals that have been terribly mistreated for their entire lives, and work to prevent puppy mills from operating in the future," said Cari Meyers, founder of The Puppy Mill Project and voice for mill dogs. "When dogs are rescued from puppy mills, they often require extensive veterinary attention, and bills sometimes cost thousands of dollars. The Puppy Mill Project has facilitated the rescue of, or provided funding for hundreds of dogs from puppy mills in the Midwest."
The Puppy Mill Project was also instrumental in helping pass legislation to reduce the incidence of puppy mills, including the Companion Animal and Consumer Protection Acts in Chicago and Cook County. The legislation bans the sale of commercially bred dogs, cats and other pets in pet stores. The organization also recently helped to put the brakes on state legislation that would nullify these laws.
The Puppy Mill Project's gorgeous table-top book, The Chicago Pet Project, will be available at the event. This book features well-known Chicagoans and their pets and includes love letters to the pets. Proceeds from the sale of the book help fund veterinary care for rescued pets.
Last year's event drew more than 300 attendees.
