The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry Releases on DVD Nationwide

TORONTO, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Phase 4 Films proudly presents for the first time on DVD, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, an all-new family film that proudly illustrates the power of mentorship, friendship and evangelism to change our lives forever.

The film opens with Dustin, Albert and Mark, 12-year-old boys and best friends, looking forward to a summer of fun in 1970.  When Dustin mows the lawn of 75-year-old Jonathan Sperry, (Gavin MacLeod) a man he has seen at church, a unique friendship and mentorship develops which sets Dustin and his friends on a path of faith and self-discovery.

Gavin MacLeod, most noted for his roles in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Love Boat" television shows, said of his role as the title character:  "I have been acting for more than 60 years," says Gavin, "and have worked with some of the biggest stars in the history of show business, but the greatest honor I have ever had was to play the role of Jonathan Sperry.  This film has all the elements that make a good movie.  It's funny, encouraging and very touching.  I am so proud of the inspirational message this movie delivers for the Lord."

Created by acclaimed writer and director Rich Christiano, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, a period piece set in 1970, takes viewers on a journey to a simpler time, using life lessons, which explains what Christian living and unconditional love truly mean.  The movie inspires viewers to appreciate what is important in life.

In addition to MacLeod as the title character, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry includes Hollywood luminary, Robert Guillaume ("Benson") as Mr. Barnes, Jonathan Sperry's neighbor.  The film also includes young actors Jansen Panettiere, younger brother of Hayden Panettiere of "Heroes" fame, as well as Frankie Ryan Manriquez ("That's So Raven") and newcomer, Allen Isaacson.

The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry played in more than 300 theaters and was among the top 15 grossing independent theatrical movies of this past year.
