AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Austin's Custom Tops, along with Shelly Roark of Supreme Lending and Tiffany Peters of Moreland Properties, helped children in need this holiday season by hosting the event "Holiday Movie Under the Stars" to benefit Toys for Tots. On Saturday, December 12th, Austin locals gathered behind the Little Deli to watch the holiday classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The event was free but guests were urged to bring a new and unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots in place of an admission fee.
Austin's Custom Tops, a local countertop company, gladly lent a helping hand when Shelly Roark of Supreme Lending came to them. The young countertop company, established in June 2008, has fast been becoming known for their philanthropic efforts in Austin. They happily donated the funds to rent the movie screen, projector, popcorn machine and purchased toys to donate to Toys for Tots.
In a time of economic uncertainty, Austin families, about 75 people, left their worries behind to snuggle up and watch the Grinch's heart grow three sizes. Their furry friends were also invited to cuddle (reindeer horns optional). Popcorn was on hand for munching and hot chocolate for sipping, compliments of Genuine Joes. Additionally, in the spirit of giving, an Apple I-Pod and gift certificates were raffled off to attendees. Toys for Tots received more than 30 gifts from the "Holiday Movie Under the Stars" event. And although, according to the Grinch, Christmas will come even without ribbons, tags, packages, boxes or bags, the joy of seeing a child's eyes light up from unwrapping a gift is worth every penny.
Toys for Tots Mission Statement
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
