In the past days a video has been launched through web and social media to introduce the Consortium, the Veneto territory and culture. The promotional video has been shot with both English and French subtitles to be addressed to the entire market. The aim of the initiative is to show the peculiarities of Veneto's food and wine production whose quality is deeply linked to long traditions and place of origin and to offer an incredible opportunity to journalists, influencers, consumers and tradespeople from across Canada to learn about Italian wines.
Italian wines have gained an important role in the Canadian market, reaching the third place for value (21.24%) and the first for volume 22.44%. Quebec and Ontario are the two Canadian provinces with the largest share of wine consumed while in British Columbia the current trends really reflect the curiosity and excitement of B.C.'s wine-buying public and include rosés, organic wines and exotic white grape varieties from Italy.
Canada is ranked fifth among the main importers of wine in the world, for 2016. Italian wine shows a steady growth in popularity and presence in this market and Italy is in first place in 2016 for quantity of wine imported to Canada, with over 50 million liters. According to the international wine experts the market is destined to grow, considering the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union and Canada signed on 2016. Quebec in particular has a historical propensity for wine culture, especially high-level wines.
