The Walser Law Firm Sponsors New Statewide Anti-Bullying Program for Florida's High Schools "Bullying and the Law"

DAVIE, Fla., Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's parents and educators face a bigger problem than parents and educators of any other generation: bullying. While bullying was once thought to be playground antics and "kids being kids," technologies like smartphones, social media and the Internet have taken bullying to a place of tragic consequences. The time for a comprehensive solution to bullying is now.

With October being anti-bullying awareness month in the United States, one philanthropic business owner has chosen to take action by funding a statewide solution to the bullying epidemic that has been sweeping through schools in Florida and the country.

"Our sponsorship has allowed a web-based anti-bullying program called 'Bullying and the Law' to be available free of charge to every high school in Florida," states Thomas Walser of the Walser Law Firm in Boca Raton, Florida. "At the Walser Law Firm we are deeply committed to reducing the crime of bullying and we are proud to provide this grassroots program."

Thomas Walser and the Walser Law Firm have joined forces with the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation to make "Bullying and the Law," a web-based anti-bullying program, available to every high school and high school student in the State of Florida.

"Bullying and the Law provides students with important information about bullying and the catastrophic effects of bullying and then provides a corresponding quiz through an easy to navigate platform," states Walser. "All high school students in Florida are encouraged to participate and help their school compete for a statewide anti-bullying award."

Florida's high school students simply participate by visiting http://www.bullyingandthelaw.org and studying the information in regards to bullying. The site specifically offers the following information; Florida's anti-bullying law, the federal and Civil Rights and Harassment laws that are broken when bullying is practiced and six short news videos portraying the tragic results of bullying. Once the student has completed his or her review of the information, the student is prompted to take a short online quiz. To help prepare for the quiz, a "cheat sheet" provided on the website to follow while reviewing the web page.

Schools that participate in the "Bullying and the Law" program are automatically entered to win a statewide anti-bullying award. At the end of the 2013/2014 school year the top 20 quiz scores from each participating school will determine the school's team score.  If your high school is interested in participating please visit www.bullyingandthelaw.org or email [email protected]

"The goal of this program is inclusion," states Walser. "As more and more schools participate in this critical anti-bullying initiative throughout the 2013/2014 school year, our hope is that bullying in the State of Florida is substantially reduced."

Developed by the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation and administered by the Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University, "Bullying and the Law" is positioned to become a national platform to abolish bullying.

"Our goal is to bring the private and education sectors together to wage a war on bullying," states Daryl Hulce, administrator of the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation. "As we continue to seek sponsors in all 50 states, it is our intent to make this innovative program available for free to every high school student across the nation."

The need for such a program could not have come at a more crucial time. In 2010, one in five adolescents said that they had been cyberbullied at some point in their lives, and about the same numbers admit to having been a cyberbully. One in ten adolescents said they had been both a cyberbully and a victim. According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying.
