The Whiteface Lodge Celebrates 30th Anniversary of 'Miracle on Ice'

LAKE PLACID, N.Y., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Lake Placid, New York is the site of two former Winter Olympics -- 1932 and 1980.

Many agree that one of the most historically significant sporting events, called "The Miracle on Ice," occurred when the 1980 US Men's Olympic Hockey Team defeated the Soviet Team in a medal-round victory on February 22, 1980.

In commemoration, The Whiteface Lodge launched several new programs.

"Miraculous Suite Savings"

Effective immediately, consumers are invited to submit their names, phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses to  [email protected] to win one of five nights in a Whiteface Lodge Junior Suite for a commemorative price of $19.80 for a night. The Junior Suites are normally priced from $ 375.00 –  $575.00 per night.  

On Monday, February 22, at 8:00pm EST, Whiteface Lodge management will draw five winners during an onsite Commemorative Culinary Event. The winners may enjoy the $19.80-per-night Junior Suite prize until December 20, 2010. (Limited to one entry per person and/or one entry per family. Must be at least 18 years old to enter. Room price does not include Lodge taxes, surcharges or gratuities).

Kanu, the Lodge's main dining area and the adjacent Kanu Lounge, offer an array of entrees ranging in price from $28.00 to $42.00.

On Monday, February 22, 2010 – the 30th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice" – Kanu and The Kanu Lounge will offer all entrees at a commemorative price of $19.80 each. Entrees will include Grilled Venison Loin, Roasted Half Long Island Duck and Tuna Two Ways. (The promotion will occur only on February 22 and does not include tapas or beverages).

"$1980 Miracles and Memories" Package

The "$1980 Miracles and Memories" Package features two nights in a two-bedroom suite; gratis daily breakfast; four complimentary "Olympic Site Passports" via Lake Placid's Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) offering:

• A gondola ride at Whiteface Mountain
• Visiting Lake Placid's "Olympic Center"
• Touring Lake Placid's Olympic Jumping Complex
• Skating on Lake Placid's Olympic Speed Skating Oval where Eric Heiden won five gold medals at the 1980 Winter Olympics

Additionally, the package includes four tickets to the ORDA Bobsled Experience, a Bobsled Ride with speeds reaching 50 MPH.  (Lodge fees and taxes are included. Subject to availability from February 22 -- March 31, 2010).
