Ericsson, Telstra Run First Live LTE Broadcast
Telstra Corporation Ltd. (OTC:TLSYY-Free Report) and Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERIC-Free Report) conducted the world's first live LTE Broadcast on commercial LTE Network. LTE Broadcast sends contents simultaneously to a very large number of devices in a target area. Thus, all the devices connected with Telstra's live LTE network received different video feeds as per their requirement at the same time with greater efficiency and high quality.
LTE Broadcast is a complete revolution in the broadcasting technology that transforms the video experience by broadcasting highest-quality video through LTE networks. Further, the technology also enables service providers to optimize the use of the existing spectrum and networks, both dynamically and efficiently.
This technology helps delivering unique contents simultaneously to a large number of subscribers. For example, subscribers can watch multiple video feeds with different angles such as close-up views or replays during live sporting events.
In addition, this technology also facilitates sending updates and contents to digital signage or billboards. This apart, with the help of this technology, consumers can enjoy pre-loaded updates of things like software or the morning paper, which can save time in situations where the server is loaded with high traffic.
Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM-Free Report) Labs' LTE Broadcast SDK and Middleware enabled the features on the trial devices, which run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and integrated modem platforms.
According to Ericsson's Mobility Report 2013, it is predicted that video traffic in mobile networks will grow by around 60% annually until 2018. Therefore, leading LTE mobile operators are testing the technology to explore the business potential.
Ericsson is the world's largest supplier of LTE technology with approximately 13% market share. To date, Ericsson has established about 150 LTE networks worldwide and has made communication easier and more convenient by providing high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. Recently, Ericsson received a number of LTE contracts from leading telecom companies across the globe.

Hertz Expands Rental Business
In an attempt to enhance its operational activities, Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:HTZ-Free Report) yesterday announced that its equipment rental business arm, Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation has opened a new facility in Paso Robles, California.
The new 15,000 square-foot showroom will serve the needs of non-residential construction, oil and gas, as well as agricultural markets of the Central Coast of California. With the addition of this new facility, the company now has 5 Hertz Equipment Rental showrooms within a radius of 100 miles.
Last week, the equipment rental subsidiary opened a 25,000 square-foot showroom in Spokane Valley, Washington. The Spokane Valley facility is Hertz Equipment Rental's largest fleet network in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hertz Global, the world's largest equipment rental services provider since 1965. The company provides a wide range of equipment and tools for rent as well as sale. It offers services on a daily, weekly, monthly and long-term rental basis in the United States, Canada, China, France, Spain and Saudi Arabia and has facilities in about 360 locations. The company is also engaged in the new and used equipment sale business.
Hertz Global, which competes with Avis Budget Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:CAR-Free Report), is aggressively expanding its operations by opening facilities at new locations and collaborating with other companies to grow businesses. The latter measure was evident from the company's announcement last week of a multi-year partnership agreement with Sentient Jet, a Directional Aviation Capital company.
As per the deal, the card holders of Sentient Jet will have the option to become members of Hertz Platinum. Apart from this, the members will have access to Hertz Dream Cars from 2014.
Hertz Global is the leading airport car rental brand in the United States. Of late, the company's Hertz brand in the U.S. airport car rental market has been generating weaker volumes, thereby limiting revenue growth.
