TheBestSchools.org Issues Open Call for Global Warming Rebuttals to Dr. William Happer -- $5,000 Prize
PELLA, Iowa, Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Is CO2-driven global warming good for the planet? Dr. William Happer thinks so. Disagree? Then refute the position of the Princeton University physicist who recently consulted with President Donald Trump—and win $5,000.
"Our site's Focused Civil Dialog on Global Warming stalled when Dr. David Karoly of the University of Melbourne had to bow out before rebutting Dr. Happer," explains Dan Edelen, director of marketing services. "Dr. Karoly addressed the perilous condition of our planet with regard to rising CO2 levels as part of his initial statement. Now, we're asking anyone well-versed on the issue of climate change to stand in for Dr. Karoly and answer Dr. Happer's statement through a $5,000 contest."
The contest issues an open call to submit a rebuttal in English of 6,000-8,000 words, addressing William Happer's Major Statement, which is based on this position:
There is no scientific basis for the claim that atmospheric CO₂ increases will have any adverse effects on humanity and nature. In fact, burning fossil fuels limits real, harmful pollutants and the CO₂ released will bring major benefits to agriculture and other plant life.
TheBestSchools.org staff will then
- Select the three best responses to Dr. Happer's Major Statement, as evaluated by our staff, and post them on our site,
- Choose the most compelling detailed response, which will be published on our site and will be declared the winner,
- Require the winning author to provide a 3,000-word "Final Reply" to William Happer,
- And, upon receipt of the final reply, present the winner with $5,000.
Deadline for submissions is Friday, March 31, 2017. Additional contest dates will be determined once submissions are assessed.
