SPRINGDALE, Ark., Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Some free radicals are formed naturally in the body and are necessary to important roles in normal cellular processes. However, some free radicals are harmful and damage cell DNA, proteins, and cell membranes. External causes of harmful free radicals include UV rays and certain sunscreen ingredients, according to a study from the University of California. 

Theraderm doesn't use ingredients in their products that produce free radicals. Many Theraderm products actively work against free radicals to inactivate them or to restore natural free radical eliminators. For example, OPC Reparative Serum is 20 times more effective than Vitamin C and 50 times more effective than Vitamin E at scavenging free radicals.

A free radical is an atom or group of atoms with an unpaired electron that is highly reactive. This free radical will then try to steal an electron from another atom, creating another free radical. The result is a chain reaction of free radicals that quickly wreak havoc by damaging living tissue.

Free radicals that contain oxygen are the most common type of free radicals. These "oxidizing" free radicals are associated with the aging process and are responsible for photoaging, cancer and inflammation in the skin.

Many Theraderm products are designed to act as anti-oxidants to prevent formation of free radicals. Using Theraderm skin care products and reducing sources of free radical activity (UV exposure and skin care products that contribute to the formation of free radicals) can help slow the aging processes exacerbated by free radical formation.
