They say that no one is tougher than a New Yorker – are you ready to prove it?
On Thursday, May 15, Joe De Sena, Queens native and founder of Spartan Race, challenges New Yorkers to a series of workout sessions at the Reebok CrossFit Fifth Ave. This unprecedented opportunity to go toe-to-toe with Joe is happening only once in New York City to celebrate the May 2014 launch of his new book SPARTAN UP! A Take-No-Prisoners Guide to Overcoming Obstacles and Achieving Peak Performance in Life, and National Physical Fitness Month. From 12 to 2:30 p.m., Joe will lead Lunchtime Heats: 20-minute Express Workouts, Spartan-style, and sign books. Attendees will receive a free, limited edition Spartan Up! t-shirt and a special discount on a Reebok Club Gym membership.
The first group to accept the challenge are 25 students from the Pathways to Graduation program. Pathways to Graduation is a citywide program dedicated to providing students, ages 18 to 21, with the tools necessary to earn their High School Equivalency Diploma and provides support for college and career success. www.pathtograd.org
Spartan Race stands for pushing through adversity, changing your frame of reference, and personal transformation – a credo that exemplifies what the Pathways to Graduation students are doing.
A legend in the ultramarathon community, Joe's prescription for life's insurmountable obstacles is to crush them through hard work and sheer force of will. Spartan Race drives participants to their very limit to learn what they are capable of and to set a new frame of reference – one they can draw upon in the face of life's harshest challenges. Everyday athletes report transforming their lives through competing in Spartan Race events – meeting the love of their life, losing weight, kicking addiction. De Sena captured that invincible Spartan spirit in his manifesto for bold living, SPARTAN UP! www.spartanupthebook.com
