The Run/Walk, sponsored in part by the Florham Park Jaycees will benefit The Billy and Ashley Streiter Memorial Scholarship Fund.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., June 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Heel Toe Running Co. today announced that it will once again partner with the Florham Park Jaycees, organizers of the 14th Annual Florham Park Jaycees 5K Race, to raise money for the Billy and Ashley Streiter Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of the Florham Park residents who were tragically killed in 2003. Heel Toe Running Co, in partnership with The Florham Park Jaycees are proud to announce that Girls on The Run will be also joining them for this year's event.
"This year the Jaycees, in partnership with Heel Toe Running Co. will present the largest 5K in Florham Park's history, honoring the lives of two very special individuals, and we couldn't be more excited about it," noted Neil Schiffman, Race Director.
The 5K Run/Walk, which will also raise money for the Jaycees scholarship fund, is scheduled for June 12, 2010 at 9:00am, and will once again begin at the Holy Family School in Florham Park.
The siblings died in a traffic accident April 5, 2003, on the Garden State Parkway in Union County when a drunk driver slammed his vehicle into their disabled car. Ashley Streiter was 20, and her brother Billy was 23. This year's event is being held to remember two incredible individuals and to raise awareness of fitness within the community.
Marisa Forti, founder of Heel Toe Running Co, an East Hanover native and former Hanover Park classmate of Ashley Streiter, is heading up the effort to support the Streiter's memorial scholarship fund.
"Although they are not here with us today, Billy and Ashley are always in our hearts, and this is why we are celebrating their lives," said Forti. "This year, on the seventh anniversary of the accident, we wanted to honor their memories, support their families, and remind the community that they are always here with us in spirit.
A major portion of this year's fundraising dollars will come from the sale of race day t-shirts, being donated by Nike. The entire cost of each $15 shirt will go directly towards The Billy & Ashley Streiter Memorial Scholarship Fund.
