Third Grade Students Create and Sell Pet Toys to Raise Money for Animals in Need with Marilyn's Voice Rescue
MENTOR, Ohio, Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Marilyn's Voice has teamed up with elementary students in the Cleveland area to raise money for animal rescue while teaching the students a lesson in economics and animal welfare.
The students of Munson Elementary in Chardon, Ohio and Sunview Elementary in Lyndhurst, Ohio have began their production of braided pull and ball toys, cat teasers and pet scarves, as well as human scarves using fleece, tennis balls, chopsticks and yarn. The third graders, with the help of their parents and peers are learning the trades of bartering and hard work as they strive toward good deeds this holiday season.
The money-raising strategy requires students to request a loan from their banker, the school principal, in order to purchase the materials needed to create their pet toys. The terms of the loan include using collateral such as shoveling snow. They can also barter with their parents; in order to have them help cut the fleece students can help with more household chores.
Pet toy sales will be held Dec. 11 from 10am-5pm and Dec. 17 from 10am-3pm at local businesses and every day at the schools. Please support these students for all of their hard work, as well as support animals in need this holiday season.
