Thousands Join Chelsea Millionaire Dating Site for £1 in Queen's Jubilee Error

A dating site for millionaires has come under fire from its own members today after a blunder has allowed thousands to join the exclusive matchmaking site for just £1.

The site nearly came to a standstill yesterday as the glitch saw thousands of lonely singles jump at the chance to meet a rich partner.

The site, launched last week, was inspired by the hit television show Made in Chelsea, which aired its finale on Monday. The final episode saw Jamie and Louise's romance well and truly finished, and Date in Chelsea hopes to sign up some of the show's single stars, along with elite Londoners looking for love.

There will be plenty of competition for the stars' and millionaires' affections though, as people have been able to sign up for only £1 by using the special offer code 'onepound'. The code, introduced by the site's parent company to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, has been found to be working on Date in Chelsea, meaning first month membership is only £1 rather than £29.95.

A vast number of wealthy singletons had already flooded to the site, attracted by their ability to meet like-minded wealthy people in a secure, private and safe environment. Now, some of them are angry about the site being open to people for only a pound.

Simon, 32, from Hammersmith said: "The very reason I joined this Date in Chelsea was to get away from those cheap, nasty-looking dating sites and find someone very special. Now it seems every average Jane is sending me winks."

"I thought this was meant to be a dating site for millionaires? Might as well rename it to #DateinPoundland," added Joe, 25, from Kensington.

Made in Chelsea fans are ecstatic at the opportunity to live the dream of a Chelsea lifestyle, though, and hope to find themselves on the arms of Chelsea's rich elite - hopefully with a bit more luck and a lot less drama than the show's stars.

The generic code should not have been applied to our service and we are going to do everything we can to ensure this does not happen again. As we are not able to end the promotion until it runs its course, we will honour memberships for those who use the 'onepound' offer up until Monday."
