Three sisters-ages 14, 11 and 6-launch a new equestrian apparel company inspired by their love of horses and riding
LA PLATA, Md., Aug. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- American Pony Outfitters is a home-based online equestrian clothing company that was created by three sisters, Lucy, Libby, and Sophie Nelson. Initially started as a school project, the three homeschoolers decided to try and make their business idea a reality. The concept for APO was to design cute and comfortable equestrian t-shirts that could be functional, not just around the barn but for everyday life.
Their website, AmericanPonyOutfitters.com, launched in June 2017 and the company operates out of the girls' homeschool classroom where they fulfill orders, manage social media, and create ad campaigns. All the shirts are hand packaged by one (or all) of the girls who put a lot of love and effort into each order. The sisters plan to add long-sleeve shirts and hoodies to their product list this fall.
"We all started riding at a very early age and have fallen in love with the sport," said Libby Nelson (age 11) and co-founder of American Pony Outfitters. "This was a great way to share our love of horses through something other people can experience also." Co-founder Lucy Nelson (age 14) shared, "We're working hard and learning so many new things. It's been fun and we hope to support our 'horsey habit' with the profits from our company."
Their passion for horses and riding clearly shines through in every aspect of their life. The girls are members of the United States Pony Club and compete in many different disciplines including eventing, dressage, show jumping and tetrathlon. When they're not showing or managing American Pony Outfitters' operations, they work hard to take care of their mounts Willie, Gabe, and Chex.
