Honored in Silicon Valley on National Philanthropy Day
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Thrive Foundation for Youth today received the award for Outstanding Foundation Grant Maker at the 27th Annual Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day. Presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley Chapter (AFP SVC) in honor of National Philanthropy day, the award recognizes Thrive for its contributions to the community, along with seven other individuals and organizations who are also receiving awards in various categories for giving back. The Association presents the Philanthropy Day awards each year to recognize the power of philanthropy to change the world.
"Thrive Foundation for Youth has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to improving the lives of youth," said Pilar Furlong, President of the Silicon Valley chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. "Philanthropy Day is a wonderful time for the community to join together in recognizing the generosity of time, treasure and talent shown by Thrive and many other noteworthy individuals and organizations."
The awards were presented at the Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day Luncheon and Awards Program on Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day is AFP SVC's premier annual event and is attended by hundreds of fundraisers, community leaders and philanthropists.
"We are deeply honored to be recognized as Outstanding Foundation Grant Maker, and the award is especially meaningful coming on National Philanthropy Day," said Nicole Taylor, President and CEO of the Thrive Foundation for Youth. "Thrive is dedicated to changing the lives of as many young people in the country as possible and today's recognition will allow us to further that goal."
Earlier this week, the Thrive Foundation announced a grant commitment of $2.4 million to support the nation's youth. Eight organizations from around the nation will each receive unrestricted grants of $300,000 over the next two years to expand innovative models for positive youth development and to support Thrive in its mission of guiding disadvantaged young people to reach their full potential by strengthening the impact and presence of caring adults in their lives. Thrive plans to create a learning community among its new grantee cohort to leverage lessons learned and develop new tools to expand and deepen transformative youth-serving programs. The grant period runs from 2014 to 2016.
