DETROIT, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Through the Eyes of a Child, a travelling photographic art exhibit that benefits the Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS), will be at Oakland Mall during the month of July in the Giggle Gang Clubhouse located on the lower level near JCPenney.
Monte Nagler, renowned fine art photographer, conducted a photography class for youth in COTS programs and encouraged them to capture their world as they see it. Children also wrote brief statements of what inspired their photos. Thirty touching works resulted from the efforts of these young artists and will be presented in an exhibit at Oakland Mall during the month of July.
Oakland Mall's Giggle Gang kids club is a free program for children 10 and under that hosts a variety of free programs and events for its 11,000 members. The Giggle Gang will be donating proceeds from their July 20th kids club event with "Clifford the Big Red Dog" to the project as well as hosting a photography contest for its members. In partnership with the Sterling Inn and C&G newspapers, Oakland Mall is asking Giggle Gang members to take their own photographs of their world and submit them for a chance to win an overnight stay at the Sterling Inn water park. The contest will cost $1 to enter and the proceeds will all go to benefit the children at COTS. All photographs submitted will then be displayed in the clubhouse after the COTS exhibit moves on.
"Oakland Mall takes community involvement seriously. We are extremely proud of our philanthropies and our popular kids club. So when we have the opportunity to bring them together everyone benefits," said David Neuman, General Manager of Oakland Mall.
