The Commemoration scheduled for July 21-24, 2011 in Prince William County and Manassas, Virginia will include more than 80 events from lectures and concerts, to exhibits, living history, concerts, art and dance which will reflect varied perspectives of the soldiers, civilians, slaves and freedmen who experienced the Civil War during the years from 1861-1865. Many of the events are free including the Commemoration centerpiece at Manassas National Battlefield Park on the morning of July 21 when the National Park Service and The Commonwealth of Virginia launch the commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War at the site of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run with nationally renowned historians, government leaders and preservation experts. Tickets for the two day reenactment of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run on July 23 and 24 along with Manassas National Battlefield Park, Prince William County Historic Sites and City of Manassas events are on sale now.
Tickets may be purchased to the following individual events at ManassasBullRun.com including:
- One or two day Reenactment of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run. From $24.00 per person based upon number of days and choice of standing room option or bleacher seating includes parking and shuttle service. The event will admit ticketed guests only. No walk-up tickets will be available at the door and the reenactment, held in Manassas for the first time in 50 years is expected to be a sell-out. All proceeds to benefit historic preservation and education initiatives.
- 3 Day Pass to Manassas National Battlefield Park - Explore the site of two major American Civil War battles: the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run and the Second Battle of Manassas/Bull Run. $3.00/ticket
- 4 Day Pass to Prince William County Historic Sites including Rippon Lodge, Brentsville Courthouse and Ben Lomond House - $5.00/site
- City of Manassas Events pass: Visit 7 historic sites, all day trolley pass, parking and shuttle service. $20.00/ticket
For those individuals attending all ticketed events, the 150th Commemoration Package, starting at $56.00 for adults includes all of the events and sites for one price.
According to Ann Marie Maher, Executive Director, Prince William & Manassas Convention and Visitors Bureau, the agency charged with promoting and marketing the commemorative events: "The ability to purchase tickets five months before the event and all in one place will assure visitors and residents guaranteed admission to this once in a lifetime commemoration. It's particularly important for groups and families to purchase in advance, so they can plan their itinerary and have an optimum experience for the Sesquicentennial."
Packages and sample itineraries have been developed for those traveling in groups of 15 or more, some include accommodations.
