TMX Group Consolidated Trading Statistics - September 2012

TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2012 /CNW/ - TMX Group Limited today announced September 2012 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges - Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange (MX), Natural Gas Exchange (NGX), TMX Select and Alpha.
Trading volume on Toronto Stock Exchange increased 20% in September 2012 compared to the prior month; it was down 22% compared to September 2011. TSX Venture Exchange trading volume was up 11% in September 2012 compared to August 2012 and was down 12% compared to September 2011. Volume on TMX Select was up 5% compared to August 2012 and was down 46% compared to September 2011. Volume on Alpha increased 11% compared to the prior month and declined 36% compared to September 2011.
On a year-to-date basis, trading volume in all TMX Group equity markets in the first nine months of 2012 continued to lag the same period in 2011.
Trading volume on Montreal Exchange declined 5% in September 2012 compared to August 2012 and declined 8% compared to September 2011. Open interest at the end of September 2012 was down 4% compared to the end of last month and up 8% compared to the end of September 2011.
NGX's volume increased 3% in September 2012 compared to the previous month, and decreased 13% compared to September 2011.
