Tom Crimmins Realty Essay Contest Broadcasts Youths' Opinions On Staten Island Ferris Wheel
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- After months of feverish writing, 5th grade classes throughout Staten Island submitted their essays to Tom Crimmins Realty Second Annual 5th Grade Essay Contest. The Tom Crimmins Realty 5th Grade Essay Contest came to be when owners Suzanne and Tom Crimmins discussed the idea to encourage and support youths to be involved and learn about essential values within their community.
Students were asked: To what extent will the St. George Ferris Wheel impact the Staten Island community? Support all answers with either three major benefits or disadvantages.
Over 500 essays were submitted and read within our committee - which consisted of Tom Crimmins Realty agents and staff. The young writers varied in listing benefits and disadvantages of the 625 feet tall St. George Ferris Wheel and side attractions that will follow. Benefits ranged from new job opportunities like handymen, tour guides, chefs and waiters in local restaurants to a boom in St. George real estate market to the wheel's efficient energy usage. Some disadvantages extended from loss of parking spaces, littering and finally to an idea of improving transit over tourism.
It was reported that NYCEDC has hopes that St. George will accumulate 4 million visitors per year. Following this, 1,200 construction jobs and 1,250 permanent jobs will be created.
Regardless of benefits or flaws that the St. George Wheel may provide, all participants are applauded on their hard effort. The young writers provided unique ideas and opinions, true leaders of tomorrow.
After reading all submissions and adhering to the rubric, the following young essay writers have been chosen:
