ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tommy Wagner Auctions [www.tommywagnerauctions.com] announces the online only auction of presidential and white house memorabilia with bidding ending Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 7pm eastern, according to Tommy Wagner, auctioneer.
"We've got some really rare items up for bid from the William E. 'Billy' Tibbs estate out of Alexandria, Va.," said Wagner, "Mr. Tibbs served in the US Army in Korea, and as a military aide in the White House to President Kennedy, President Johnson and President Nixon. He was also a military aide to Spiro Agnew during the Nixon administration."
Billy Tibbs was in the presidential motorcade in Dallas on the day that John F. Kennedy was assassinated. One of the items up for bid is a hand-written note from Jacqueline Kennedy to Tibbs sent after the funeral which reads, "Thank you for all you did to help the President. Jacqueline Kennedy."
Tibbs was also in the presidential party that went to Berlin in 1963 and received an appreciation medallion, one of only 300 produced, designed by Frank Gasparro of the US Mint. This item is up for auction in its original unopened plastic sleeve.
Also up for bid is a rare 1963 White House Christmas card lithograph from JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy depicting the Green Room, prepared in advance of the holidays and presented after JFK's death.
"Jackie was very keen on tradition and carried on with the Christmas card even though LBJ was president," explained Wagner. "We also have a beautiful 1962 White House Christmas card lithograph depicting the Red Room which includes a Christmas gift check of $5 to Mr. Tibbs from the Kennedy account, as well as a number of other White House Christmas cards, photos and more from the LBJ and Nixon eras."
Another rare item in this collection is a Vice Presidential service badge Tibbs received upon his assignment to Spiro Agnew. These badges were normally turned in at the conclusion of White House service.
Other highly collectible items in this estate auction include vintage toys, train sets, firearms, Masonic rings, jewelry, Morgan silver dollars and much more. Nearly 500 lots up for online bidding. For more details, visit www.tommywagnerauctions.com or call (540) 400-3753.
