Informational Picket by District 1199C at the Rudolphy Residence for the Blind

PHILADELPHIA, March 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The operators of the Edith Rudolphy Residence for the Blind withheld the pay of workers for up to six weeks forcing six members of District 1199C -- three part-time workers and three full-time workers -- to leave their jobs and join the unemployment rolls this year.

To protest, members of District 1199C of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees  AFSCME-AFL-CIO, will stage an informational picket to demonstrate the union's outrage at the failure to pay workers' wages and the ill- treatment of union members.  The demonstration is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 23 at the Rudolphy Residence for the Blind, 3827 Powelton Avenue.

"This is terrible," said 1199C Executive Vice President Michele Mills. "No one should be treated this way.  The operators of Rudolphy withheld their employees pay until the workers were forced to leave.  And then the director gave the jobs to members of her family," Mills said.  "Union dues was taken out of employees pay for six months and never paid to the union; then they stopped paying the workers altogether. It's outrageous," 1199C Executive Vice President Michele Mills said. "We want employers to understand and our members to feel assured that we will not accept this kind of treatment."

The director of the facility is Francine Lingham; the Rudolphy Residence of the Blind is believed to have been in operation since 1868.
