Toshiba and NTT Com Announce Global Cloud Alliance
TOKYO, Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502), a world leader and innovator in pioneering high technology, and NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), a data, cloud and international communications leader within the NTT (NYSE: NTT) Group, announced on February 27 a multifaceted alliance under which Toshiba's data-center and cloud-computing services will be provided to global customers by NTT Com's Enterprise Cloud, a self-manageable, full-layer virtual private cloud, and data centers. Services will be provided in North America and Asia from April, and then expanded to Europe thereafter.
Toshiba, which has provided data-center and cloud-computing services primarily to domestic companies in Japan, will now use Enterprise Cloud to provide global-scale data-center and cloud-computing services that enable enterprise customers to expand and manage their operations within a common cloud network environment accessible from anywhere in the world.
Also under the alliance, Toshiba has begun supplying NTT Com with high-quality, high-performance storage systems that are now being used in selected parts of the Enterprise Cloud environment. NTT Com intends to further strengthen its cloud services with Toshiba's advanced technologies for storage and related storage services.
Enterprise Cloud, which offers cloud computing resources, high-security VPN connections and much more, is accessible via NTT Com's global network, which reaches 196 countries and regions and offers over 150 secure data centers worldwide. Enterprise Cloud is a high-quality infrastructure as a service (IaaS) that connects directly to the network services of communication carriers to enable customers to freely control server infrastructure in 8 countries and 10 locations from customer portals.
Looking ahead, Toshiba and NTT Com plan to further utilize each other's advanced technologies and services to drive initiatives aimed at strengthening their respective global cloud businesses.
