trainchinese Chinese Writer Game App from Molatra Limited Makes Learning to Write Chinese Fun
HONG KONG, June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Many students around the world find learning to write Chinese characters one of the most challenging aspects of mastering the language, but Molatra Limited's (http://www.trainchinese.com) new trainchinese Chinese Writer application turns the activity into a game. Designed for students of all ages and learning levels, the app is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and is available from the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trainchinese/id422248993).
In the game, students study Chinese by using their fingers to trace characters that fall from the top of the screen. To score points, players must trace a character accurately before it reaches the bottom of the screen. As each character appears, the app presents Pinyin Romanizations, English definitions and audio recordings for every possible pronunciation in order to reinforce players' understanding. Players are able to adjust the speed of gameplay and the complexity level of the characters.
Once the game is over, players can perform a stroke-by-stroke review of the characters they got wrong. They can also practice writing a specific character by tapping on the app's "Browse and practice" option, scrolling through a list of stroke diagrams and selecting the specific character they wish to practice. Molatra has posted a demo video of the game's features on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Biny36nZ1gU).
"As everyone knows, Chinese characters are sometimes quite complex and it's not easy to remember them," said Klaus Maler, president of Molatra. "What's more, students need to memorize more than 2,000 characters just to read a Chinese newspaper. Even seasoned students have trouble distinguishing the less common characters, not to mention remembering the elaborate stroke orders for writing the more complex ones."
"Chinese Writer is so much fun, students play the game repeatedly and so commit the Chinese character to memory in a manner that feels effortless," continued Maler. "The application works so well that it's reached the top-grossing position for iPad educational applications on the iTunes store in Singapore, Taiwan and Mexico."
Molatra has also been receiving positive feedback from individual users. One even wrote a review at the Dim Sum blog (http://tinyurl.com/3mhxte5), stating, "Overall, the educational value of this game is higher than others I've seen. It's already made me aware of some characters that I was in the habit of writing incorrectly and is breaking those habits."
Teachers and serious students can take advantage of character packs representing different levels of fluency in Chinese according to the HSK standard, the official Chinese language test in mainland China. Students planning to take an HSK exam can simply select the appropriate pack and practice the characters.
Chinese Writer is compatible with the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Individuals can share their game scores, trainchinese experiences and meet other users at http://www.facebook.com/trainchinese and http://twitter.com/trainchinese. They can also visit the website for other products for learning and practicing Chinese.
