NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Last week, the tech community joined together at NPower's Annual Gala to celebrate transforming lives through technology. Throughout the evening, more than 800 attendees heard from leading technology executives, including David Reilly, member of NPower's Board of Directors and Chief Technology Officer at Bank of America. Mr. Reilly proudly introduced NPower's 2015 Honoree, Michael Dell, Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Dell Inc. Mr. Dell was recognized for his philanthropic leadership and transformational impact and delivered a powerful message that evening.
"Technology is transforming lives and transforming the world. It also creates opportunities and careers for youth, and we see that impact through the great work NPower is doing. There are many things you can do for young people, but I believe creating jobs is the most important thing." – Michael Dell
NPower's Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder of Verilume, Dan Petrozzo, kicked off the evening program by sharing some data points around NPower's impact:
- Technology Service Corps has 1,000+ graduates and is expanding programs into New Jersey
- The Community Corps has 8,000+ tech volunteers helping 2,200+ nonprofits and schools across 40 states (watch new video launched at Gala)
Attendees were inspired by a mini-documentary video and a speech by a graduate from NPower's free job training program for veterans in North Texas, Michelle Brick. Ms. Brick served six years in the U.S. Navy and upon returning from her service, she overcame hardships including homelessness and unemployment.
NPower also presented awards to two executives and their companies for outstanding commitment and service to NPower's programs:
- Tech Volunteer Team of the Year Award: Steve Mase, Director Global Process Quality Assurance, Citi
- Tech Training Team of the Year Award: Luke Chilone, Managing Director, TD Ameritrade
