HOUSTON, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MT Services LLC, a Lawsuit Settlement News Reporting Company which operates lawsuitsettlementnews.com, announced today that Coloplast has recently increased its transvaginal mesh litigation budget by $448 million in order to cover settlement and legal costs. According to Drug Watch, the Danish manufacturer (Coloplast) faces more than 2,000 pending lawsuits in the Southern District of West Virginia, in a multidistrict litigation court. The provision they just added to the TVM (transvaginal mesh) budget is to cover needed settlement and legal costs here in the United States. Coloplast had settled 400 lawsuits against them in 2014 for $16 million plus about $93 million "worth of insurance for future legal costs. Now, the total provision sits around $727 million," according to the recent article.
There have been six multidistrict litigations against different mesh manufacturers, consolidating more than 80,000 lawsuits against the companies. Almost all of the mesh manufacturers, with the exception of J&J's Ethicon, have announced or have been working toward settlements. J&J has over 33K active claims, yet they continue to contest liability. The J&J transvaginal mesh litigation is expected to drag on for years. The lawsuits against the different manufacturers allege that the transvaginal mesh devices and bladder slings caused serious injuries, and the manufacturers involved have had verdicts against them, and also have agreed to high settlements. Legal-Bay said when it is all said and done that the TVM mass tort litigation could go down as the largest of all-time. However, the company reports that the complexity of each case and various products makes it also the toughest one to resolve – as manufacturers are literally going from firm to firm to settle cases at the best negotiated price. This has caused a wide ranging of settlement figures for very similar cases.
Chris Janish, CEO of MTS commented on the recent news in the Coloplast MDL, "The news on Coloplast is a positive one as they seemed to be settling cases at very low values or amounts compared to the other mesh cases. Hopefully, this news will streamline Coloplast victims who secured settlements. Unfortunately, the mesh litigation continues to drag even on the settled cases. Our settled case funding of mesh cases has seen sharp rises in applications due to many plaintiffs frustrated as they wait for their funds."
Many women filing claims against the device manufacturers have had to undergo multiple revision surgeries. It is not too late to file a transvaginal mesh or bladder sling lawsuit if you are having complications; however, the time is dwindling down to do so. MTS advises any patients who have had a revision surgery, or believe they will need one in the near future, to seek a free legal consultation immediately from a transvaginal mesh lawyer or transvaginal mesh law firm or by inquiring directly with MTS at: http://www.lawsuitsettlementnews.com/transvaginal-mesh-lawsuits
