Co-founded by Michael Shimbo and Theo McMurray, two veterans of digital content and interactive products, PTA is now available worldwide across several platforms: as a Roku® channel to stream directly to the TV; on all viewing devices accessing www.thePTA.com; and as part of Clear TV, supplying TV programming to global airports on its ClearVision network. The company will also be announcing several other digital distributors in the near future.
"PTA is an innovative option in a very stagnant media category," said co-founder and CEO Shimbo. "Travel is currently missing a digital programming brand like ours, one that combines a high standard of quality with entertainment, information and inspiration. There is a strong desire from global audiences, distributors and advertisers for a network that matches up to the ubiquitous consumption of quality programming on a multitude of digital displays. Simply put, PTA is that network."
"PTA is designed to deliver a tailored experience determined by the method of consumption," added co-founder and Chief Creative Officer McMurray. "The unique architecture of the PTA brand and programming formats maximizes the viewing experience no matter the platform."
PTA is launching with six original series, including adventures with veteran road manager Rick "Balls" Marino inStateXState; Day Off featuring photographer and director Noah Abrams as he explores new locales between shooting live gigs and name talent; and Staycation, a unique travel program in which locals become tourists in their own communities. More on the programs can be found at http://youtu.be/NvUsMGNeCX4.
PTA currently has several brand alliances including Belstaff, Bally and others that match their brand positioning and target audience. Key investors in the endeavor include Venture51 and 500 Startups.
"We immediately loved the PTA brand and team," said Ryan Swagar, managing partner of Venture51. "There remains a great divide between the traditional video (TV) and web brands. This has created a gap in programming—especially for the growing OTT viewing platforms that demand quality. We see PTA as the Travel Channel for OTT and know that Michael and team will prove the PTA brand in a massive category for growth."
