MEDINA, N.Y., Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TREK, INC., a designer and manufacturer of high-voltage amplifiers and electrostatic voltmeters has established a strategic partnership with M4 Sciences LLC which leverages technical strengths from both companies to provide high-productivity ultra-precision machining technology for use in aerospace, automotive, commercial, consumer, industrial, medical, military/defense, optics and space applications.
M4 Sciences (W. Lafayette, Indiana) is a designer and developer of advanced technologies for ultra-precision machining. The company's CEO, James Mann, is co-author of the patent applications relating to these novel cutting/drilling technologies and is co-founder of M4 Sciences. The machining technology developed by M4 Sciences was discovered at Purdue University, School of Industrial Engineering and licensed through the Purdue Research Foundation's Office of Technology Commercialization.
M4 Sciences is commercializing a range of devices based on their innovative patent-pending modulation assisted machining (MAM) technology. Modulation assisted machining is a productivity-enhancing cutting/drilling technology which controls chip formation, improves cutting fluid effectiveness, removes the need for peck cycles, and increases process stability and feed rates. It can be used in a wide range of metals/alloys such as aluminum, cast iron, cobalt-chrome, copper, stainless steel, steel, tantalum and titanium.
Trek partnered with M4 Sciences to design and develop high-voltage amplifiers that meet the demanding specifications involved in driving their patented piezo-based machining tools (TriboMAM® systems). Trek's high-voltage amplifier technology delivers highly precise mechanical control which is essential to M4 Sciences' MAM technology.
James Mann, M4 Sciences CEO said, "We are very pleased with our collaborations over the last five years with Trek. They have been very instrumental in our success. Our strategic partnership with Trek has enabled us to effectively and efficiently transition our technology from lab bench to commercial reality. We are continuing to expand our relationship with them as we commercialize new products for the machining industry."
Trek's President, Michael Dehn, said, "Trek has been a strategic partner to original equipment manufacturers for over 40 years. The Trek brand is well-known and well-respected by OEMs involved in electrophotography (office copiers) and semiconductor (chip) equipment. We are now expanding our market presence by establishing strategic alliances with technology-focused OEMs in other markets. M4 Sciences is an excellent example of that expansion."
