Trevecca Nazarene University to see Nearly 15 Percent Energy Reduction Through Energy Automation Systems, Inc. (EASI) Technologies

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Trevecca Nazarene University of Nashville, Tenn., has installed energy-saving technologies developed by Energy Automation Systems, Inc. (EASI) that are estimated to reduce energy use by nearly 15 percent.

The 109-year-old school wants to lower its energy consumption for financial and environmental reasons, said Dr. Dan Boone, Trevecca president.

"Reducing Trevecca's energy bill helps keep tuition costs lower," said Dr. Boone. "Also, students today are keenly aware of their school's environmental impact; this initiative demonstrates how we're meeting a commitment to environmental responsibility."

EASI's technologies were installed in the 25,000 square-foot A. B. Mackey Building, built in 1961. The three-story building serves as classroom space and home of the School of Education.

"If, as we expect, it meets or exceeds estimates, we plan to roll out the same technologies across the campus," said Glen Linthicum, university plant operations director.

Energy Automation Systems, Inc. (EASI), a Nashville-based firm, installed technologies that reduce wasted electricity in electrical systems and improve power quality. The company has conducted thousands of similar installations in the U.S. and more than 60 other countries.

Payback on the $17,000 project was an important selling point, said David Caldwell, executive vice president of finance and administration.

"We expect a less than 34-month payback, which is good for the university both in the return we'll receive in the short term and the savings that will result over the 30-year life expectancy of the EASI technologies," Caldwell said.

EASI guarantees its energy savings estimates through Lloyd's of London. If actual savings do not equal the guarantee, EASI makes up the difference.

Trevecca Nazarene University, with over 2,400 students, is growing at about six percent a year.
