TRX has a long history of supporting community involvement through the XTEND program which supports local fund-raising and volunteer efforts as well as encourages the development of new community-based programs. As part of the XTEND program, TRX employees participate in community efforts for Bryan's House, Cell Phones for Soldiers, Clean Air Campaign, ECO-Action, Exchange Clubs of America, Relay for Life, and Home of Hope for the Destitute: New Ark Mission of India, an organization solely dedicated to rescuing and rebuilding the lives of the destitute and dying people of the streets of India.
Barry Burke, Quality Assurance Analyst and an active volunteer for TRX, said, "I chose to volunteer with ECO-Action, an Orlando, Florida-based environmental organization. ECO-Action helps clean up the environment and native wildlife by removing hazardous trash that is harmful to animals and the environment. Recently, I have participated in waterway clean ups at the St. John's River, the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and many lakes and beaches around Central Florida. I'm glad that TRX provides the XTEND program and encourages employees to become involved in helping make their communities better."
In addition to community programs, TRX is leading the way for green initiatives to promote an environmentally friendly workplace and help prevent or offset unintentional environmental damage (such as carbon emissions) caused during the normal course of business. These initiatives include a global recycling program in TRX offices worldwide, video-conferencing meeting technology, and decreasing traffic related carbon emissions through flexible work scheduling initiatives. TRX also provides a free Airline Carbon Emissions Calculator designed to accurately assess the carbon footprint of air travel by corporations and individuals. TRX's Airline Carbon Emissions calculator, has been identified by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) as being the best currently available in the market today, citing transparency and overall comprehension as key factors. SEI is an independent, international research institute specializing in sustainable development and environment issues.
"Like most companies, we believe in the power of volunteerism and the importance green initiatives have in the communities where we live and work," said Shane Hammond, President and CEO, TRX. "Our XTEND program is entirely employee-driven and intended to encourage our people to make a difference in the local communities in which we operate." Mr. Hammond is an active volunteer with The National Exchange Club, a service organization with 700 clubs and approximately 22,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
