Turning Pointe Autism Foundation Announces Return of Naperville Pumpkin Race on Oct. 25
One of the Foundation's community fundraisers supports programs and services for individuals with autism
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Naperville-based nonprofit Turning Pointe Autism Foundation proudly announces the return of the Naperville Pumpkin Race, taking place from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Rotary Hill Park in downtown Naperville near the Millennium Carillon. One of the Foundation's community fundraisers, this event directly supports programs and services that educate individuals with autism, helping them build independence, confidence, and meaningful skills.
The event invites participants of all ages and abilities to design and race their own "Pumpkin Racer" in a head-to-head, bracket-style competition. Families can enjoy a full day of activities, including a costume contest, pumpkin decorating challenge, bubble art and face painting, painting station, food vendors, and meet-and-greet opportunities with personalities from 95.9 The River — all while supporting Turning Pointe students.
Since its founding in 2007, the Foundation has offered programs and interventions that empower individuals with autism to reach their full potential. Turning Pointe conducts research and operates the CN Therapeutic Day School, which addresses the unique needs of students learning with autism, as well as the Foglia Family Adult Services, which includes the Compass Class Pilot Program and Employment Training Program. These adult-focused services help participants develop communication skills, socially appropriate behaviors, functional living abilities, and employment readiness.
"The Pumpkin Race is one of our favorite traditions because it brings the community together in such a joyful way," said Julie Schmidt, the Foundation's development officer, events and partners. "Every laugh, cheer, and pumpkin roll helps support our students and their journey toward independence and success."

About the Pumpkin Race
Participants build wheeled "Pumpkin Racers" and compete in side-by-side in elimination rounds. Trophies and awards are presented for the fastest racers, best-decorated pumpkins, and standout costumes.
Participants can join the fun in person or purchase a Pumpkin Race Kit to host their own backyard race. Each kit is proudly crafted by adults employed by the Foundation's vocational programs, providing meaningful work opportunities and fostering independence. During October—National Disability Employment Awareness Month—the Foundation celebrates employees with autism who contribute their talents to a beloved community tradition. Over 555 kits are shipped across the country—to Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, Massachusetts, California, Tennessee, New Jersey, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Colorado, and Washington—spreading joy and inclusion for Pumpkin Races nationwide.
"Each kit supports our vocational training programs and helps participants develop real-world skills," Schmidt said. "Since this event takes place at the end of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, it's a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of these adults. From our Therapeutic Day School to our adult services, we help individuals with autism grow their confidence and independence every day."
