Wondereur is a Canadian Online Publishing Award-winning app, which combines an intimate photo story and pop-up art store to create a beautiful weekly experience—available for iPad, web browsers, and now iPad mini—that showcases the life and work of noteworthy artists. Each week, talent spotters—leading artists and art professionals from around the world—recommend an artist who is at the tipping point of his or her career.
Delanty is passionate about discovering and spotlighting art from around the world. "I'm constantly on the hunt for original art in a variety of mediums for both my own collection and my client's spaces," he says. "Wondereur gives readers the opportunity to discover artists from around the world in a way that hasn't been possible, even for seasoned art buyers, until now," says Delanty.
For Wondereur, working with Delanty as a Talent Spotter was an ideal fit. "Patrick is a fixture in the U.S. art scene, and as a design expert, his eye for textures and interesting pieces is unmistakable," says Olivier Berger, co-Founder, Wondereur. This week, Patrick Delanty presents LA-based painter, Tanja Rector. Her story and work will be available from Wondereur through November.
Rector's paintings caught Delanty's eye for their architectural influence and tapestry-like use of colour and texture. "Tanja Rector's pieces would be at home in any interior and they have that collectable quality that art buyers are always looking for," says Delanty. "I still remember the feeling I got when I purchased my first original piece of art," says Delanty. "I love that with Wondereur, I can share the excitement of discovering new art," he says.
Find out more about Tanja Rector, recommended by Patrick Delanty, by visiting www.wondereur.com and launching the web app, or by downloading Wondereur for iPad or iPad Mini through the Apple App Store.
The Art of Buying Art
Patrick Delanty offers his tips for choosing art for your home.
Look for pieces that speak to you.
"Look for art that you're immediately drawn to. Explore a variety of mediums and formats, and don't be afraid to mix it up! As a designer, I help my clients acquire well-rounded collections. I might start with an abstract oil painting and pair it with a black and white photograph, then I'll add in a figurative sculpture and some charcoal sketches. Don't get hung up on matching your art to your paint colour or your furniture, or only choosing one style of art—be as expressive as you want to be!"
Don't be intimidated.
"Many people avoid purchasing original art because they consider it a major investment, like buying a car. Buying original art should be fun and exciting, and choosing pieces should be an exercise in expressing your own taste and individuality. The great thing about Wondereur is that original art is available in a variety of sizes and price points, so you can start as small or big as you want to."
Continually discover and explore art.
"As part of my job, I'm constantly visiting galleries and studios around the world and it's a great source of design inspiration to be constantly exposed to new and established talent. The best feature of Wondereur is that readers have a team doing that work for them. Talent Spotters know what they are looking for, they know what they like, and can find unique art and make it accessible to first-time buyers as well as seasoned pros."
