ULI + Real Estate Center Conference Examines Politics, Economy, Best Investment Bets in 'Era of Tempered Expectations' Nov. 12 in Houston
HOUSTON, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday, Nov. 12 at the Westin Galleria in Houston (www.uli-houston.org), former Presidential staffer Frederick McClure will dissect the shifting Washington power base. Mark Dotzour, Chief Economist, The Real Estate Center, and Bill Gilmer, Senior Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will examine the state and national economic outlook.
Adding industry insight to the discussions of policy and the economy, Chip Clarke, President, Gulf Coast Region & Mountain Region, Transwestern, John Fenoglio, Sr. Vice President, Grandbridge Real Estate Capital, and Welcome Wilson, Jr., President and CEO, GSL Welcome Group, will join a roundtable discussion with John Beddow, publisher of The Houston Business Journal.
As a prelude to the forecast conference, co-host the Urban Land Institute (ULI) offered a modestly upbeat outlook in its recently released Emerging Trends in Real Estate® 2011 study, by PwC US and ULI.
"In an era of less, investors continue to accelerate their flight to quality, to coastal gateway cities and prime class assets," the summary of responses from more than 1,000 real estate industry leaders concluded.
The 32nd Annual Emerging Trends study also saw relatively favorable conditions across Texas:
- "Houston is expected to come out stronger from the recession than most states, creating more real estate demand.
- Dallas attracts businesses with its low costs, low taxes and sizeable talent pool.
- Austin and San Antonio again get high marks for appealing quality of life and a strong service market."
"While ratings improved for markets from coast to coast over 2010's results, the gap between top and bottom continues to widen, and more than 60% of surveyed cities still fall below "fair" ratings for commercial and multifamily investment prospects."
