Elsewhere in the UK, 250,000 passengers flew from Gatwick, 150,000 from Edinburgh and 105,000 from Luton, and the increase in the number of passengers means good numbers for the summer holidays too.

Raine continues: "Easter is the precursor to the summer, and it's often a fairly accurate indicator of the level of holiday bookings and passenger numbers that we can expect during the summer months. The Easter weekend was an extremely popular time for British holidaymakers to go on holiday, and while this will have been due in part to the exceptional number of bank holidays this month, the high numbers of bookings and enquiries for breaks in European destinations, like cheap holidays in Cyprus this month show that consumer trust in the holiday industry is recovering, which is just fantastic news."
