UMass Medicine Cancer Walk Slated for Sunday, September 27, 2015
WORCESTER, Mass., Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Plans are now underway for the 17th annual UMass Medicine Cancer Walk, which will take place Sunday, September 27, 2015. As Central Massachusetts' most celebrated cause-related activity, the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk has raised in excess of $7.9 million in support of cancer research and care at the UMass Medicine Cancer Center of Excellence in Worcester, Massachusetts. This past year alone, the event drew more than 12,500 participants and raised a total of $430,000. Beth Whitney, Walk Event Manager, comments, "There are many worthy causes in our region and we're proud that the money we raise stays here at UMass. It would mean a lot to us if people set aside September 27th and mark their calendars for our upcoming walk and 5K run during what is an undeniably beautiful time in New England."
The September 27, 2015 event will kick off with a 5K run at 8:00 AM, as well as a "survivor's lap" led by a UMass team of cancer doctors, researchers, and nursing staff around the UMass Medical School quad. The 3.5 mile walk will follow at 10:00 AM. This year's event is once again expected to attract more than 12,000 individuals, business leaders, employees, community organizations, and teams dedicated to raising funds in support of cancer research and clinical trials at the UMass Medical Cancer Center of Excellence.
In addition to the overwhelming number of individuals and teams that raise funds for the Cancer Walk, corporate partners including the Harr Motor Group, Panera, and Stop & Shop have been instrumental in ensuring the success of the event.
